Nature-based Solutions and Comms Support Officer

Sophie works within the Nature-based Solutions team to deliver biodiversity net gain, carbon, and green infrastructure projects. She supports several aspects of the Darent Valley Landscape Recovery project, including quantifying natural capital potential of habitat transitions and developing a financial model for the delivery of long term landscape-scale habitat restoration. She is skilled in GIS, R, and data analysis, with expertise in conservation ecology.

In addition, she works on developing Adonis Blue's communications strategy and updates the website and social media channels.

Sophie graduated from the University of Sheffield with BSc Zoology and MSc Science Communication. During her undergraduate studies she developed an interest in ecology and conservation, and undertook research projects on caterpillar predator avoidance strategies in Borneo and the effects of parasite infection on sexual investment strategies in mealworms. With an appreciation for the importance of wider public engagement for the success of conservation, she went on to study MSc Science Communication. For her dissertation, she investigated the best strategies to improve and maintain engagement with online citizen science projects, which involved running a social media campaign for the Natural History Museum. Before joining Adonis Blue, she worked as a language editor of international biosciences research papers.

Passionate about high impact conservation and integration of nature into communities, she brings her diverse technical and creative skillset to support projects that make a real improvement for nature in her home county of Kent and beyond.
