The UK government has set ambitious goals to protect and restore the natural environment within a generation.
In support of these goals, the government has committed to new laws that will make it mandatory for developments to deliver an overall increase in biodiversity, through Biodiversity Net Gain, to ensure the land is in better condition after a development is completed.
We support developers and ecologists to deliver what is required by law and to ensure that new habitat is being created in areas where it can make the biggest difference for wildlife. Carbon storage and nutrient neutrality
The UK government has commissioned the Committee on Climate Change to explore how the UK can achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Land use and development will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
Through the provision of biodiversity net gain, Adonis Blue Environmental Consultants provide the essential ecological expertise and landscape and landscape-scale design to ensure development and land management can achieve its commitments. We want to enhance natural habitats to lock up as much carbon as possible and defend sensitive areas from seepage of nitrate.
We will work with clients to design natural and cost-effective solutions to enhance appropriate habitat, to offset and store carbon emissions and support a carbon net zero approach that enhances and protects the future of our woodlands, wetlands, water bodies, species-rich grasslands and heathlands.
There is sound evidence that high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus input into the water environment are causing eutrophication at some of our most important designated sites (Integrated Water Management Study (IWMS) for South Hampshire – March 2018 commissioned by the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH), with the Environment Agency and Natural England).
Achieving nutrient neutrality is one way to address the existing uncertainty surrounding the impact of new development on designated sites and ensure compliance with the Habitats Regulations.
Where development sites and land management risk additional damage through nitrate seepage into sensitive sites such as those designated for wildlife, we will advise and build in a nature-based design that captures nitrates at the source. This provides a landscape for people and nature and invests in offsite conservation work that leaves a real net gain at a scale significant enough to make a difference for wildlife.
